The story behind what inspired this piece is everywhere, and the anger is truly valid. It is not enough to discuss how insensitive the assaulter, who goes by ‘Pyjama Man’ on social media, was to Ariana Grande-Butera, who had survived a terrorist attack in May 2017 at her concert, which resulted in 22 deaths. If you saw the video online, which has gone viral, it is plain obvious to see how terrified she was.

People are dismissing what happened as less dramatic, but it is that serious. Not only was Grande still healing from the attack in 2017, but it is also another reminder that celebrities need to be protected. The worst-case scenario was that he could have had a weapon that would have harmed Grande and any other cast member. This has happened to The Voice star Christina Grimmie, whose kindness and appreciation for her fans resulted in her murder in 2016.

No one should be shocked if there are no more events in Singapore after what happened. What gathered even more criticism (rightfully so) is how the assaulter thanked Grande-Butera for “letting him jump” on the carpet with her in the caption of the videos he posted online, which stinks of arrogance and entitlement. He is known to gatecrash artists’ stages, like Katy Perry and The Weeknd. He is now facing the harshest judgement (again, rightfully so) because he kept posting videos online with little consequence and criticism. Grande-Butera's incident has now found a bigger audience. The price of going viral is extortionate, and he is now paying for it (and again, rightfully so).

He does not need any more attention (and followers – who the hell is following him online after all of this?). Outlets have reported that he has been charged for the incident this Friday afternoon by the Singaporean court, and if found guilty, he could face a fine of up to 2,000 Singaporean dollars, which converts to over £1K. However, this is not enough to prevent him from doing this again.

A more severe punishment is necessary; anyone who makes content or a living out of harassing celebrities when they are performing or at an event is not a sane person. The security guards also should have acted quickly, and Cynthia Erivo should never have had to put herself on the line to protect her co-star. Fining him is not going to stop him. Treating him like a dangerous criminal will.

Grimmie was most known for appearing on The Voice and set out to have a flourishing and promising music career after the show. However, her life came to a tragic end after a meet-and-greet session following her performance, which saw a crazed fan pull out a gun and shoot her. Grimmie’s brother, who was present, was valiant in tackling the fan, who went on to take his own life shortly after. Sadly, Grimmie died in the hospital.

Grimmie is by no means the first person to be murdered by a fan, though many high-profile murders were not at a meet-and-greet. In 1980, The Beatles’ John Lennon was murdered outside by a fan. Over a decade later, legendary singer Selena Quintanilla-Pérez met the same fate, though her murderer was more than just a fan. She was the president of her fan club. These murders are not common, but by not taking the protection of celebrities seriously, they will be.

Violence against celebrities is slowly getting normalised, especially towards women. Not even a few years ago, Bebe Rexha was assaulted while she performed on stage by a “fan”. Abnormal “fans” of KATSEYE, who are gearing up for their tour in some cities in the United States and Canada, were threatening to harm the band’s only Black member, Manon Bannerman, on Discord, a direct result of the lack of protection from the racism she had been receiving since the debut. This is slowly becoming a trend; in the current climate, where women are facing misogyny and Black women are facing misogyny and anti-Blackness at an alarming rate, keeping high-profile women safe is integral.

What happened to Grande-Butera is another example of men being entitled to women’s spaces. Invading her space and then writing on social media, thanking her for letting him meet her, is from the same incel playbook that speaks of being entitled to women. The man is a danger, and it would not be shocking if he goes viral again for the same reasons.

Celebrities are not a prop nor a trophy to claim. They are real people like the rest of us, who do not deserve to be victims of senseless violence and violation. Grande-Butera should have been protected, and more women deserve protection from their so-called fans. At the end of the day, harming your idol is not being a fan. It is being an insane, dangerous, entitled freak with no life of their own.

Earlier this week, Condé Nast announced that Teen Vogue will fold into Vogue. With Teen Vogue merging into Vogue, positions had been eliminated, and Teen Vogue’s political section had been dissolved. Many journalists had come to LinkedIn and X, formerly Twitter, to announce that they had been laid off from Teen Vogue at an alarming rate: a lot of these journalists who had been laid off are mainly Black women and LGBTQ+ members.

It’s not enough for misogynists to understand that no woman will ever want them. They want women to know that they hate us. They never needed AI, particularly Grok (Thanks, Elon Musk), to achieve this. However, AI tools are very powerful in making sure that misogyny is alive and well.

Sites such as Data Annotation allow people to train AI, and not everyone is training AI for a better cause. Men have given Grok AI a lot of power to be abusive towards women online, and nothing will change if it is not addressed. What makes this worse is that by using AI to be a loser and a misogynist online, the AI users are killing the planet. So not only are they fueling violence towards women, but they are also contributing to the negative effects of climate change, all because they hate women.

Men Use AI To Be Locker Room Misogynists

Men are now using Grok AI to be “high school” misogynists, meaning that they are back in the locker rooms, rating women out of 10 in the replies, after they have posted images of themselves on Twitter. Recently, a young Black model posted a screenshot of her being featured on a fashion brand website modelling a dress, and instead of complimenting her, men are asking AI to rate her looks out of 10. The replies should be shocking, but Grok AI spares her no grace, as it rates her a 3.2 out of 10, while other men make harsh comments.

Many men may have graduated from high school, but they still have that locker room mentality. Thanks to AI, they can weaponise this with very little consequence at the expense of women on the platform, with zero regard for their feelings. But it is not just Grok AI that is letting men go unscathed with their misogyny. Grok is used on Twitter, which is now rotted by violent racists and rape apologists, which rewards this kind of behaviour with algorithm pushes and more followers.

Men are no longer in the locker rooms with just themselves. They have invited an AI tool to participate in these misogynistic discussions and bond over their shared hatred of women. Not only does this show that AI is being used to incite misogyny and violence, but it also shows how lonely a lot of men are.

How Grok AI Also Fuels Porn Addiction

A lot of misogynistic men are addicted to porn, and Grok AI is no stranger to fueling their addiction. Men are asking Grok to put brown bags on women that they do not find visually attractive as a way to communicate that they are only “f*ckable” for their body, while others have asked Grok to omit clothing from women. A lot of men have even went far to ask Grok to edit images of women by having them in positions to perform sexual acts.

Porn addiction is known to be an influence of rape culture. Now in the digital age where technology is “smarter” and more advanced, porn addiction is even more dangerous. Men are no longer just looking for NSFW content on PornHub anymore. They are trying to find them by using Grok, harming many innocent and unsuspecting women who are not giving these degenerates consent in the first place.

Now that advanced technology is being used to send the message that women are nothing but objects, violence online is being perpetuated. Women’s privacy and rights to their own bodies is being violated by men online who are using AI to deprive them of their privay and ownership to their bodies. This is all thanks to porn, which, for many years, have been responsible for how men view women.

Grok AI Will Only Continue To Make Women Feel Unsafe Online

As long as Twitter turns a blind eye to men sexually harassing women and creating NSFW images of them without their consent, Grok AI will continue to help fuel more violence and misogyny against women. Making NSFW images and distributing them without consent is a criminal offence. However, some men continue to make and distribute these images without fearing the consequences.
